Grand Forks Human Rights Consortium

ADVANCING HUMAN RIGHTS

The Arc, Upper Valley carries out its mission of protecting and promoting the rights of people with IDD by working together with licensed providers in Grand Forks to ensure that the rights of the individuals they serve are safeguarded.  All Developmental Disability providers are required to have a Human Rights Committee and Behavior Support Committee.  Many providers in Grand Forks choose to utilize the region-wide committees operated by The Arc.  The advocacy organizations and providers who collaborate in this effort are known as the Grand Forks Human Rights Consortium.  

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE

The Human Rights Committee is made up of volunteers with relevant expertise in areas related to human rights.  This committee reviews, approves, and monitors the programs of persons' served designed to manage behavior and other programs that may involve risk to client protection and their rights.

GRAND FORKS HUMAN RIGHTS CONSORTIUM

The Consortium is a collaboration of DD providers that utilize the region-wide committees operated by The Arc. They work together to oversee the implementation of both committees cohesively and comprehensively. 

 

BEHAVIOR SUPPORT COMMITTEE

The Behavior Support Committee is made up of volunteers with relevant expertise in areas related to positive behavior supports and teaching new skills.  This committee reviews, approves, and monitors individual behavior plan programs to ensure that plans identify the meaning of the behavior and there are mechanisms to teach new replacement skills.
