Walking Beside You: A Space for Caregivers to Connect

Care for someone you love is one of the most meaningful roles a person can take on. It can also be complex, emotional, and, at times, isolating.
Staff at our organization regularly hear from caregivers who are navigating systems, advocating for services, and working to support their family members in living full and meaningful lives. Alongside those experiences, we also hear something else, a need for connection. A space to talk with others who understand. A place where you do not have to explain everything before being heard.
That is why we created Walking Beside You, our caregiver support group.
A Different Kind of Support
Walking Beside You is not a formal class or training. It is not about having all the answers. It is about creating space.
A space to share experiences.
A space to listen.
A space to connect with others who understand.
Whether you are a parent, sibling, grandparent, or another type of caregiver, this group is designed to meet you where you are. Some participants come to talk. Others come to listen. Both are equally valuable.
Why Connection Matters
Caregiving often means navigating complex systems, appointments, services, school meetings, transitions, and decisions that carry real weight. Even when supports exist, it can still feel like you are carrying those experiences alone.
Connection changes that.
When caregivers come together:
Experiences become shared, not carried alone
Ideas and resources naturally emerge
Isolation begins to lessen
Confidence can grow
Sometimes, simply hearing “you are not alone” can make all the difference.
Designed with Real Life in Mind
We understand that stepping away to attend an in person meeting is not always realistic. Schedules are full, responsibilities are contant, and leaving home can be difficult. That is why Walking Beside You is offered online.
This allows caregivers to join from wherever they are, making participation more accessible and flexible. Whether you are able to fully engage or simply listen in, you are welcome.
To help foster meaningful local connections, participation is currently limited to individuals living in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota.
What to Expect:
Each session is guided, but not rigid. There may be a general topic or prompt, but the direction of the conversation is shaped by those who attend.
You can expect:
A welcoming and respectful environment
A shared understanding among participants
Opportunities to connect with others navigating similar experiences
The ability to participate in whatever way feels comfortable to you
Registration is required, and participation is facilitated to help ensure a supportive and appropriate space for all attendees.
Walking Beside You
The name of this group reflects how we believe support should feel, not leading, not directing, but walking alongside.
Caregiving is not something anyone should have to navigate alone.
Walking Beside You exists to create a space where caregivers can connect, be heard, and build relationships with others who understand the realities of this role.
